Sensor fusion

Why the edge is a natural home for sensor fusion.

A practical look at local processing, fragmented streams, and the journey from sensing to structured events.

The world arrives in different formats

A camera frame, a LiDAR sweep, and an IMU measurement describe different aspects of the same environment. Before they can inform a shared interpretation, an engineering pipeline must reconcile timestamps, sampling rates, spatial frames, and calibration.

Put processing close to the signal

Sending every raw stream to a central cloud introduces transport requirements and dependencies. Local processing can support time sensitive analysis and intermittently connected environments. The appropriate split depends on the application, hardware, and operational constraints.

Send context upstream

An edge pipeline can publish observations, events, and selected metadata instead of forwarding every raw measurement. A connected management layer can then provide deployment visibility and diagnostics. This is the architectural approach behind HoloNexa FusionOS.

These notes describe architectural principles from the HoloNexa company brief. Specific capabilities and deployment suitability require a project discussion.
